Rare Antique 19th Century Russian Icon of the Trinity
A rare and intricate 19th-century Russian icon depicting the Holy Trinity, inscribed in Old Church Slavonic at the upper margin, "Image of Three-hypostatic Godhood, Father, Son, Holy Ghost." At the top center, an angel holds a scroll reading, "Selaphiel, supplicant to God always for mankind," beneath a celestial circle representing the New Testament Trinity. Each corner features the symbols of the Four Evangelists, accompanied by additional archangels, the Mother of God, and John the Forerunner.
At the lower center, within a circular reserve, is the inscription: "Co-beginningless Father and Co-beginningless Son and Co-beginningless Spirit — like cherubim, glorify the Three Persons, saying, ‘Holy, Holy, Holy.’ With your holy power have mercy on us." Rich in theological symbolism and fine craftsmanship, this icon is both a devotional object and a collectible piece of Russian Orthodox heritage.
